Case Study - Guide to Van Excellence
Auto Electrical Services (AES) sells and maintains commercial vehicle products and services, such as software solutions and air conditioning systems, and works with large public and private sector fleets. Since its first Van Excellence accreditation four years ago, it is such a convert that it now offers support to other operators seeking Van Excellence Operator Accreditation.
Director of Business Development Richard Stansfield says, pre-Van Excellence, AES was typical of many small fleets. Its directors tried to manage the fleet alongside their main responsibilities, it had patchy protocols and its comprehensive fleet software wasn't used for safety or efficiency.
"We went from no compliance to putting in step-by-step policies and practices with Van Excellence," he says.
"The Guide to Van Excellence was a fantastic support to us. It laid out the practical processes we needed to adopt in order to meet the standard – it was like the dummies' guide to operating vans!"
Stansfield recommends the Guide to Van Excellence to all his customers as a route to compliance.
"We help fleets establish sound practices and then use Van Excellence as a great foundation for continuous improvement."
"The guide explains why we need to do something and then demonstrates the processes required," continues Stansfield. "We were also able to call FTA's Advice Centre for further assistance when we needed it".
"Through Van Excellence we stay abreast of legislation changes, benefit from shared resources and the best practice of other members. This is invaluable."
"Van Excellence is a fantastic scheme. I'm over the moon about what we've achieved by being part of it."
